The future is already here

ByGraham Mann

"The future is here— it's just not evenly distributed."

This William Gibson line is the quote I think about most these days.

The pace of technology advancement at the moment is staggering:

It seems impossible to keep up, and impossible to predict where things will go in the future.

But the quote is a reminder that the future is already here: just not for everyone.

Someone, somewhere, is already living in the future. They're applying new technology in ways that others aren't, and doing what will become common practice in a few years.

So often when I'm wondering what the future will look like, a much easier question to answer is: what are the most advanced people in X doing right now?

Whether it's through research, or finding a community on Twitter or another corner of the web, or chatting with people in the field, that's a much easier question to find the answer to.

Have a great week!

📚 Book:The Spider Network: How a Math Genius and a Gang of Scheming Bankers Pulled Off One of the Greatest Scams in History - David Enrich - I enjoy reading about trading and investment banking, as it's an area that I've always been interested in, but don't have any experience with.

Similar to books like Michael Lewis's Going Infinite,The Big Shortand Flash Boys, this tells the story of an industry-wide scheme to manipulate interest rates to the benefit of traders worldwide.

Turned out to be funny timing to read it too, since the primary protagonist just got out of jail and is suing for $400M.

📖 Nori - Personal health coach - Only available in the US right now, and recently launched, this app promised to mesh together all your different health tracking info and apps to give you a coach.

One of the side effects of AI coding is that integrations between different software products are much easier to build than before, so I think we're going to see a lot more of these (plus the benefit of the AI coach).

I personally use a number of these apps, and do wish there was some better linking of the data.

🏠 Build Update 6: The Theory of Passive Houses & Larsen Trusses - The latest in my series about learning to build, this post goes into the theory behind why I'm building the way I am, and the goals for the buildings.

It covers some of the basic theory of passive houses, as well as the related "pretty good house" ideas.
