Thinking, Newsletters, Being Yourself & Green Leaders

ByGraham Mann

The past couple months seem to have been some of the toughest in pandemic times for remote workers.

Spring is coming for those of us in colder climates, which is nice, but the third wave of infections with vaccination (relatively) close is difficult psychologically. So close, yet so far.

Personally, I've been thinking more about what I'd like work to look like post-pandemic, and some of the choices we'll have when the world is back to (relative) normal. Hoping to write a bit about that soon.

What I Worked On

  • Blog Post: Find Solutions, Not Problems - A short piece on one of the attributes I'm trying to cultivate in myself and those around me.
  • Podcast: Added new episodes to my Personal Podcast, like what book got me into business and how I chose what to study.
  • Short Essays: My two most popular short essays this week were It's Okay to Love Learning and Love of the Ocean.

Have a wonderful week!

Graham

📖 A Not Boring Adventure, One Year In - Not Boring is a newsletter examining tech companies and the industry, and this is a look at the first year of growth. Fascinating look at building an atypical business model around a newsletter.

📖 In Defense of Thinking - Cal Newport - A short piece on how we've lost appreciation for thinking as an activity. Mention one of my favourite books, Shop Class as Soulcraft.

📖 Be Yourself - Nat Eliason - In a world of follower counts and online presence, Nat argues for authenticity. This is a consistent debate among creators.

📖 Our Quest for Circularity - Patagonia - An honest look at some of Patagonia's efforts to reduce waste. Also a great example of how to build brand loyalty.

📖 MIT Green Future Index - A ranking of countries on their progress towards building a low-carbon future. Iceland, Denmark & Norway lead the way, but there are some surprises.

🍿 Breakdown of Kendrick Lamar's ELEMENT - I don't usually get music videos, and apparently lots of others don't either, but this was a cool breakdown of a poignant video.
