Decision-Making Superpowers, Best Albums of the Decade, Philosopher Kings and NYC

Happy Wednesday !

I hope you're having a great week! This will be a shorter one this week - the holiday season always seems to be busy, both for work and outside. Pushes to get things done before the break and holiday parties make reading and writing tricky!

That said, here are a few things from this week.

Blog Post I Wrote: Mental Models: Your Decision-Making Superpower

If you aren't familiar with mental models, I encourage you to read this post. Studying mental models and cognitive biases has helped my thinking more than anything else over the past few years, and that's why I'm putting a big focus on it in my writing.

Articles I'm Reading:

The 100 Best Albums of the 2000s - Rolling Stone - If you aren't into Christmas music, here's your listening for the next while. There are some surprises on this list, and many that you probably listened to at the time, but may appreciate more now.

Patagonia's Philosopher King - The New Yorker - Fascinating profile of Yvon Chouinard, the environmentalist founder behind Patagonia.

How starting an email newsletter will change your life - Khe Hy - If you're thinking about New Year's resolutions already, maybe this will inspire you.

Robert De Niro and Al Pacino: A Big, Beautiful 50-Year Friendship - GQ - If you're fans of the actors themselves, or you've watched The Irishman on Netflix, you'll probably enjoy this interview.

A crazy overhead photo of New York City

From the same thread, a visualization of the flow of people in and out of Manhattan - New York's 'heartbeat.

Book I'm Re-Reading: Shop Class as Soulcraft: An Inquiry into the Value of Work

I was lent this book by a friend several years ago, and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it. I prefer this book to Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and it makes me question what I truly love to do as work. Great book.

Have a great week! (and don't drink too much at your holiday parties)

Graham
