Writing, Books, NY Subways, Joe Beef, and $7M Cars
I hope you're having a great week! Here are some things I've been checking out and working on the last week:
Book Notes I Added:On Writing - Stephen King
Part autobiography and part writing instruction manual, this book gives an interesting look into the development and writing process of one of the world's most successful authors.
Articles I'm Reading:
- Justin Verlander - The Astros' Ace and Sleep Guru - NYT - Your weekly reminder that sleep increases performance, and a look at one of the professional athletes who has embraced it.
- The best books to read at every age, from 1 to 100 - Washington Post - If you're looking to add to your reading list, or looking for gift ideas, this is the perfect list.
- Why New York Can't Have Nice Things - Intelligencer - I've often wondered why subway lines cost so much. Turns out, New York has some unique problems that make it cost much more there than elsewhere. This article explores why, compared to cities like London and Paris.
- Joe Beef and the Excesses of Restaurant Culture - The New Yorker - Joe Beef is one of Montreal's most well-known restaurants, and the chefs behind it are almost as well known. They recently quit drinking, as a result of a lifestyle fraught with issues.
- Inside the Twisted, Worldwide Hunt for a $7 Million Stolen Car - Esquire - A fun read about a car detective who is essentially a real-life Magnum PI, searching for a 1938 Talbot-Lago worth an estimated $7M.
Cool Website:Leon Sans
For those into design or web development, this is a very cool website, centered around a font (I believe) the author designed.
Photos from the week: I was back in Nova Scotia again this weekend, for a wedding, and hockey season kicked off with some pre-season games.
My visit also coincided with the delivery of my parent's Tesla Model 3. I spent a bit of time driving it - probably ~100km, and it was fantastic.
Have a great week!
Graham
