Just-in-Time Learning, The New Happy Hour & Dating, and Air Traffic Control for Drones

Happy Wednesday !

I hope you're having a great week! Managed to get things ready on time this week.

Without further ado:

Blog Post I Wrote: Just-in-Case vs. Just-in-Time Learning

I love to read and research, but have to be careful it doesn't get in the way of taking action. Here's one way I try to think about acquiring new knowledge to avoid analysis-paralysis.

Book Notes I Added: Drive - Daniel Pink

I read this while working on understanding my own thinking and career preference. If you want the shorter version, his TED talk is good too.

Articles I'm Reading:

Play Your Device Like an Instrument - So many of us who work in technology fail to make use of shortcuts and other productivity tools. If you spend significant time at a computer, the benefits of learning these early are immense.

Beyond Happy Hour - Nat Eliason - I found this piece interesting, as I too have been thinking about ways to socialize without drinking (particularly in the summer) when it tends to be the default activity. My personal favorite these days are evenings in the park (ideally with some Spikeball).

An Instagram Without Likes - Paid - Influencer agency Paid published results of a survey they did on Instagram's latest test of hiding likes. Unsurprisingly, creators didn't like it much. I'm a big fan, and hope we see more moves like this from social media companies.

Millenials Use PowerPoint to Help Friends Score Dates - New York Post - In the wake of online dating moving into top spot for how couples meet, we've got things like this. Which...well, I'll let you decide whether you're horrified or amused.

Alphabet’s Wing launches app to manage air traffic for drones - The Verge - I think we're now entering a second era of drones, where they become more ubiquitous. I also think the current regulation (which just changed in Canada) will benefit greatly as drone-related software matures.

Product I'm Looking At: Otter.ai

I've used Sonix.ai in the past for transcribing podcast episodes, but this product was brought to my attention as a method of transcribing conversations in general. I'm interested in recording more of my conversations, particularly because I think audio is an underrated method of storing memories and learning.

Song I'm Listening To: Things I've Learned - AUST Remix

The latest addition to my work playlist has been driving some very productive work days.

Have a great week!

Graham
