Travel Rules, 8chan, Marijuana & WeWork's Crazy Vision

Happy Wednesday !

I hope you're having a great week! This week was a busy one for me, with a spontaneous 72-hour trip to England for Wilderness Festival.

It meant a lot of flying, which means a lot of reading, so I'll have lots of good articles for you the next couple weeks.

Enjoy!

Book Notes I Added: Outliers - Malcolm Gladwell

I didn't give this book a very high rating (6/10) because I generally judge books by impact on my life, but it is good for one thing: entertainment. In fact, most of his books are entertaining to read, yet still informative, which make them good books when you want something that isn't too mentally demanding, like before bed.

Blog Post: The Top 10 Books I Read in 2018

This post was popular on social media this week, so I'm re-posting here. My best suggestions if you need to expand your summer reading list.

Articles I'm Reading:

16 Rules That Every Kind, Smart and Compassionate Traveler Follows When They Fly - Ryan Holiday - I'm reminded of this every time I fly, and I'll soon write my own piece. Which brings me to...

The Final Definitive Case For Why You Should Never Recline Your Seat On An Airplane - Ryan Holiday - ...this point, which I was reminded of when the guy in front of me took away all my space on the flight home (which made working difficult). Counterintuitive, but I'm a big believer in the rule (first class/business is still okay in my book, assuming sufficient space).

Destroyer of Worlds: How a childhood of anger led the founder of 8chan to create one of the darkest corners of the internet - 8chan (aka infinitechan) has been making headlines lately, as the perpetrator behind the El Paso mass shooting posted there (and received support), joining a number of other mass shooters who posted there prior to attack. It's a cesspool, and this story looks at the founder, and how it became what it is now.

Is marijuana as safe as we think? - Malcolm Gladwell - Turns out, very little is known about the long-term effects of marijuana, and perhaps we should be cautious. I'm seeing more and more similarities between things like vapes, and meat replacements. Many of these things are modern creations in forms that aren't natural, and we know little about the long-term effects. Even juice probably isn't that good for you.

How did WeWork’s Adam Neumann turn office space with “community” into a $47 billion company? Not by sharing. - Intelligencer - Finally, I found this profile of WeWork founder Adam Neumann fascinating. He's cashed out to the tune of $700M, and built a huge company, but his visions for where the company is going are...interesting. WeWork also has yet to turn a profit, which isn't necessarily abnormal or bad (see Amazon), but in this case, I think warrants attention.

Have a great week!
