Zen, Real Estate, Tesla, Everest & The Boring Company
Happy Wednesday !
I hope you're having a great week! Here are some things I've been checking out and working on the last week:
Book Notes I Added: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
This has been a best seller for over 40 years, but I just...didn't really enjoy it. I enjoyed parts - the discussion of classical vs. romantic thought, the motorcycle maintenance, and the travel writing - but I didn't really enjoy the core philosophical discussions.
Articles I'm Reading:
What happens if building more housing doesn't work - Alex Danco - Alex's writing is always good, and this is no exception. Interesting piece on why building more housing might actually be a positive feedback loop in some cities.
College kids are living like kings in Vancouver's empty mansions - Bloomberg - Another crazy housing market: Vancouver. They've implemented some changes recently that have made putting mansions up for rent attractive.
Are ‘pocket neighborhoods’ the solution to never-ending urban sprawl? - The Hustle - This piece dovetailed with some of my recent thinking about affordable housing options.
Argentina just made driving licenses digital - I'd love to see more stories like this. In just 65 days, Argentina transformed their driving license system to allow virtual licenses. Challenges the assumption that government initiatives have to be inefficient.
Tesla: Insane or Clever? - Jean-Louie Gassé - While I don't claim to have a deep understanding of the auto market or the technical side of car manufacturing, I still see this as Tesla's biggest advantage - their integration and focus on software.
What Changed My Mind About Climate Change? - Jerry Taylor - Good summary of climate change from a risk management perspective.
What I'm Watching:
Photo of Everest summit crowding - This isn't the first photo like this, but crazy nonetheless.
Demo of new Boring Company tunnel - I think there is still a lot to be worked out to make Boring Company tunnels useful, but this demo is cool regardless.
Have a great week!
Graham
