FightCamp, Secret Oral Histories, Ecstasy and English
Happy Wednesday !
I hope you're having a great week! Here are some things I've been checking out and working on the last week:
Blog Post I Wrote: FightCamp (Home Boxing Workouts) Review
Full disclosure: this is a company founded by friends of mine. That said, I did my best to give an objective review, and at the very least you can watch some video of me attempting to box. The verdict: I believe this is one of the best home workouts available (effective + fun).
Articles I'm Reading:
The Secret Oral History of Bennington: The 1980s' Most Decadent College - Esquire - This is a long read, but fascinating. Behind the scenes of a college class full of fantastic artists and writers. I'm reading Bret Easton Ellis's Less Than Zero as a result.
The Mystery of Tesla Model 3 Demand - CleanTechnica - A European perspective on Tesla and the Model 3. Having experienced the magic of driving a Tesla, I think the main point is spot-on: Tesla isn't really competing with other electric vehicle manufacturers, and the competition with gas cars is much easier to win.
Your cotton tote is pretty much the worst replacement for a plastic bag - Zoe Schlanger - A reminder that many issues (including the environment) are rarely easy to understand, and that the goal is not perfection but improvement.
Open Benchmarks - Baremetrics - For those interested in SaaS (software-as-a-service) businesses - which many startups are - this is an invaluable resource. Insights into average monthly revenue by company size, churn metrics, pricing models, and more.
Embracing Ecstasy - The Verge - I remain fascinated by psychedelics and other drugs which we are now re-examining for mental health treatment. The research using MDMA to treat PTSD is very promising, and other applications like serious anxiety could be next.
Book Notes I Added: Dreyer's English - Benjamin Dreyer
The best part about this book - which is mostly about grammar and word use - is that it shows how the English language customs are often a choice, rather than black-and-white rules. As entertaining as a book this detailed about grammar can be.
Album I'm Listening To: A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships - The 1975
Reminds me a bit of Fitz and the Tantrums.
Have a great week!
Graham
