Weekly Wisdom #318 - How consistent you need to be to see results
Consistency vs. Talent, Art of the Good Life, Wave Power, Creating With Friends & What To Do
Happy Tuesday!
If you ever set out to tackle something difficult, one of the clichés you'll hear frequently is "consistency beats talent."
Like many clichés, I think it's common because it's true.
It doesn't matter whether it's a physical challenge, like running a marathon or completing an Ironman, or a mental challenge, like creating content or building a business: consistency is a good place to start.
If you know consistency is important, the next question becomes, how consistent do I need to be? How long do I need to persist?
Setting this expectation is important, because make it too short, and you'll be disappointed when you don't see results.
Most of us expect results too quickly, and don't persist enough.
The answer I've come to is what I'll call the rule of 100.
Having seen and done enough things, I think 100 is a good rule of thumb for selecting how long you need to be consistent.
100 what? Well, it depends.
100 days is a good start for most things I think.
A new diet, a new workout regimen, posting on a social platform: 100 days is longer than most would hope, but long enough to be sure you should see results.
100 "things" could also be a good measure, particularly for content: 100 photo posts, 100 YouTube videos, 100 blog posts, etc.
Consistency beats talent, and 100 is enough that you can call yourself consistent.
Have a great week!

📚 Book Notes: The Art of the Good Life - Rolf Dobelli - I'm a big fan of both of Dobelli's books (he also wrote The Art of Thinking Clearly).
Well-written and easy to digest, these are great books to read over and over.
This week I also read A Spy Alone and The Project.
🔋 CorPower - This is the first promising wave-power company I've seen in a long time. I'm not sure it will ever be viable vs. solar on a large scale, but it's cool to see innovation in the space nonetheless.
📖 I liked this graphic from Ben James. Finding ways to do combine things with friends (like work out, leisure time, etc.) is something I consider a life hack in general, creating with friends is maybe even better.
