Happiness Is ___, The FTX Story, Recovery Tools & Business Ideas

Happy Monday!

I re-read The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss recently, and this quote stood out:

The opposite of love is indifference, and the opposite of happiness is—here’s the clincher—boredom.

Excitement is the more practical synonym for happiness, and it is precisely what you should strive to chase. It is the cure-all.

The question you should be asking isn’t, “What do I want?” or “What are my goals?” but “What would excite me?”

Excitement is a synonym for happiness.

I was struck when I read this because this makes things so much simpler.

It's far easier to think about what excites you, and try to do more of that, than to think about what makes you happy.

And it's far easier to recognize boredom as the cause for unhappiness than to try and figure why you're unhappy in general.

Have a great week!

📚 Book Notes: Going Infinite - Michael Lewis - As with all Michael Lewis books, this was a very entertaining read. He’s a great writer.

He met the founder of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) ~2 years before the collapse of FTX, and so was uniquely positioned to write a book about him. There are details in this book that you won’t find anywhere else, and he tells a great story.

Unfortunately, he does seem to be taken in by SBF, and obviously hadn’t come to terms with his guilt by the time he published the book (it was published before the trial had started).

Read the book for the entertainment and then read this detailed book review for the missing pieces (including the guilty conclusion).

📖 The Pose Method for running - The official website here and this article do a good job of explaining it, though I originally read about it in Tim Ferriss's 4-Hour Body.

I'm revisiting it as I train for a marathon this spring and have been experiencing some IT band tightness causing pain. The method requires a little practice, but ultimately prevents a lot of the usual aches that come with long-distance running.

🔧 Recovery tools I love - Along with the long-distance running, I've been focusing more on muscle recovery and making sure I avoid any more soreness than necessary. My current list of favourites:

Rumble Roller

Theragun Mini

Resistance Band + Door Anchor

PSO-RITE Psoas Muscle Release tool

Therabody Wave Vibrating Roller

I use each one differently, though if I had to choose just one it would be the Rumble Roller. Painful but effective.
