Buying Models, Billionaire Murders, Paper Airplanes & Smart Locks
Happy Halloween! Here are some things I've been checking out and working on the last week:
Blog Post I Wrote:The 3-Tier Buying Model
This post explores 3 categories for items we buy, using clothing as a specific example. What other areas do you think this applies? What would you modify about the model?
Articles I'm Reading:
- Where Does Discarded Clothing Go? - The Atlantic: painful explanation of how many clothes we throw out, some of the reasons why, and how we can avoid it.
- Paper Airplane Designs: wish I'd known about this as a kid. Office paper airplane competition anyone?
- The Unsolved Murder of an Unusual Billionaire - Bloomberg: fascinating story about the murder of a pharmaceutical billionaire and his wife in Toronto.
Book I'm Reading:The Laws of Human Nature - Robert Greene
Robert Greene is one of my favourite authors, writing books that are timeless and filled with interesting historical examples. His latest explores 18 laws that apply to all of us.
Product I Want:August Smart Lock
I checked into my last Airbnb using one of these, and the thing I like most is they just install over your normal deadbolt, no replacement or difficult installation necessary. Their standard model works, but if you want voice control, get the Pro version.
Tweet I'm Thinking About: The "10-Year" Strategy:
Incidentally, while I think Silicon Valley gets it right that you can have incredible impact very early by picking the right things to work on and doing as best as possible as fast as possible, there are a *lot* of strategies which work if they include "and then do it for 10+ yr"
