Weekly Mix #200 - Life Audits, Money vs. Time & Defeating Aging
Weekly Mix #200 - Life Audits, Money vs. Time & Defeating Aging
Happy Monday!
This weekend was particularly busy for me, involving a lot of time spent outside, and very little time on my phone or computer.
In Canada, or the Northeast—where we have cold winters—the summer is naturally a time when we want to be outside.
Lots of people take their vacation then; there are lots of activities available that aren't possible during the winter, and the days are much, much longer.
Shane Parrish, of Farnam Street, mentioned in one of his recent podcasts that he takes 2-3 months off during the summer. He has other employees that work during that time, but even they take extended periods of time away.
It's a time for reflection and relaxation. It gives time to reconsider priorities, and enjoy the weather.
I wonder what it might be like if we all did something similar.
This is the 200th issue of the newsletter, and I want to thank all of you who sign up, read it and send me notes. It's one of my favourite things each week, and I look forward to many, many more.
Thank you! Have a wonderful week.

📖 How and Why to do a Life Audit - Ximena Vengoechea - This process is similar to an annual review, but a bit more freeform; closer to the brainstorming part of an Annual Review. As the pandemic comes to a close in some countries, it may be helpful as many people reconsider what's next.
📖 How to trade money and time - Katja Grace - Trading money and time is something many of us do poorly. I've always had a bit of an issue with assigning every hour a monetary value; it can be helpful as a mental trick, but isn't really realistic unless you actually make money during any time you free up. This post is full of ideas that you can trade money and time, and should help you build the habit of at least thinking about when you're making a trade.
👀 ThanAverage - This website is simple: you answer questions like "Are you a better listener than average?" and then see how many others in the sample agreed. It perfectly illustrates our own biases (though obviously the sample isn't perfect).
🎧 Defeating Aging and Living Longer with Dr. David Sinclair - Modern Wisdom - A fascinating look at some the cutting-edge work being done on aging, as well as some of the things you can do right now to slow the aging process. You can read the key points here. I plan to add his book, Lifespan, to my reading list, and to revamp my daily/weekly schedule and supplements in the fall.
