Weekly Mix #197 - Better Thursday Than Never
Weekly Mix #197 - Projects, Want, Omar Sy & Building an Education Fund
Happy Thursday!
I'm enjoying the first of a couple days off this week. Like all pre-vacation weeks, I was attempting to finish a bunch of things and didn't find time to write this newsletter.
But, since I have some time off, I won't have any excuses for next week and will be back to Monday.
Have a wonderful week!

📖 A Project of One's Own - Paul Graham - Another great essay from Paul Graham on finding projects of your own. Most interesting for me are the characteristics of such a project: voluntary and solo. It doesn't mean you can't work with others, but the project you are working on is yours alone. Very difficult to truly replicate this feeling in a company of any scale.
📖 The Diderot Effect: Why We Want Things We Don't Need - James Clear - I think about this often: why do I need this now, when I went so long without it? Of course, there are things we need, or want, or would like to upgrade. But maybe we should remove something else? Or avoid the temptation in the first place.
📖 The Formidable Charm of Omar Sy - NYT - A great profile of the star of Lupin, the French show that has been so popular on Netflix recently. One of the quotes that stood out: "“I felt like I was paying a debt,” he said. “Somehow, the experience of being rejected, of trying out and never hearing back, gave me the legitimacy that I needed. It diminished my feeling of imposture.”"
What things do we do to pay an imagined debt? Why don't we believe we deserve success?
📷 Harry House - Archier - Another home project filled with light, natural wood, and attention to space.
🍿 Lupin - Netflix - I finished the newly-released Part 2 of the French Netflix series, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The stories of Arsène Lupin are apparently well-known in France, but were new to me. Pair with the profile of Omar Sy above.

“If your self-worth is hinged on how society and the people around you gauge success then you're outsourcing your happiness to other people.”
