Remote Work, Languishing, YOLO, Zoom Brain & NASA's Best Earth Photos

ByGraham Mann

Earth Day was last week, which is a great time to reflect, enjoy, and think about how we can help preserve the Earth.

One of the things I do is offset my carbon footprint using Wren. If you have the means, I'd encourage you to use them or a similar service.

Or do something else! But try and translate thought to action in some way.

Quick reminder:

  • Ship 30 for 30, the 30-day writing challenge, is down to a few spots left for their May cohort. You can get $20 off here.

What I Worked On

Have a wonderful week!

📖 Remote Work is Here to Stay - My thoughts on where work is heading, why hybrid work will be painful, and the best models for remote/distributed work.

I added these as further reading at the bottom of the post, but I'll add them here as well. All good pieces on remote work:

📖 There’s a Name for the Blah You’re Feeling: It’s Called Languishing - NYT - Not sure about the scientific basis for this, but it did resonate with me, and naming it is helpful. In short, it's what you may be feeling if you've noticed a drop in your motivation or overall ambition in life.

📖 Welcome to the YOLO Economy - NYT - Continuing the work-related theme this week, perhaps unsurprisingly, lots of workers are re-evaluating their career, or choosing to take some time off.

📖 This is your brain on Zoom - TechCrunch- Not sure this would make a scientific paper, but some interesting data that seems to support Zoom meetings being more draining than in-person meetings.

📷 NASA's all-time best photos of Earth- As a celebration of Earth Day, here are some stunning photos from NASA.

💵 WealthSimple Cash - The ability to send cash instantly finally makes it to Canada! Send and receive money using the WealthSimple app (I use WS for investments too). Canadians only.
