Missing Planes, Legalizing Gangs, Steal Like an Artist, & a new blog post
I hope you're having a great week! I managed to get quite a bit of reading done over the long weekend (Happy belated Canada Day!). Here are the highlights:
Blog Post I Wrote:Measurement is Not the Goal (and Sleep Anxiety is Real)
I wrote this post after a discussion with a friend about tracking sleep, and the potential downsides. It coincided with a recent case study being published, and served as a good reminder for me, as a person who loves to track everything possible.
Book Notes I Added:Steal Like an Artist - Austin Kleon
Fun and fast to read, motivating, and actionable. What more could you want? One of my favourite books on creating things.
Articles I'm Reading:
- What Really Happened to Malaysia's Missing Airplane - The Atlantic - Turns out, the mystery of MH370 isn't really much of a mystery anymore. The sad part is, it looks like it was one person at fault for the actual deed (though many who were incompetent during and after).
- Stay in the game - Having recently visited Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, this story particularly hit home for me. Be kind, people; you never know when it will make a difference.
- Ecuador legalized gangs. Murder rates plummeted. - Vox - The kind of story I find particularly fascinating, where something supposedly intuitive is flipped on its head, with startling results. See also the War on Drugs.
- Study: White Oak Pastures Beef Reduces Atmospheric Carbon - I've been reading some counter-arguments against Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat, and this adds to those. The issue of replacing meat is not a simple one.
- John McAfee Fled to Belize, But He Couldn't Escape Himself - Wired - Having visited Ambergris Caye with my family years ago, this story is even more interesting, but McAfee himself is a wild figure.
Song I'm Listening To: Lake Nivu - Jarro
One of the best work songs I've found in a while. I've been listening to this on repeat for the last week while working. Here's my full work playlist.
Have a great week!
Graham
