Journaling, Perennial Seller, & Workout Plans

Happy New Year !

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday, ate lots of good food, and took a little time to reflect. I had a great break, got lots of reading in, and managed to get some thinking done as I planned for the upcoming year.

I don't do New Years resolutions, per se, but use the holidays as a time to examine my past year, and make sure I'm focused for the upcoming year and quarter.

Book Notes: Perennial Seller - Ryan Holiday

I uploaded my notes from Ryan Holiday's latest book, which is all about "making and marketing work that lasts". The short version: it's good, and any creative/entrepreneur/etc. concerned with how to make great things that stand the test of time should read it.

Video: I'M MAKING DAILY POSTS THIS YEAR - Dave Culligan

My friend Dave Culligan is well-known in Halifax and Nova Scotia for his 365 project, where he made a video each day for a year. He's back at it this year, creating daily content while cataloging his focus on three things: "body, brain and business" (including his new production company).

Products: Daily Stoic Journal & 5-Minute Journal

One of my focuses this year is to cultivate a daily habit of journaling, and I'm using these two tools to help me do it. I've used the 5-Minute Journal before, and it's better for cultivating gratitude; the Daily Stoic journal is more free-form journaling with prompts. Both are good options, but I'll report back with which I'm finding more useful in a few months.

Product 2: Garmin Connect platform

I started using Garmin Connect because I have a Garmin watch, but you don't need any Garmin products to sign up for the platform. Why I'd suggest signing up regardless is the training plans they offer. They have a bunch of different plans for running, swimming, biking and triathlons, and they're all free. You can sign up for one, pick your start date, and then export to your calendar, so all you have to do to remember your workout is take a glance at your calendar. I've been using it to train for an upcoming half-marathon, and it removes me having to think about my next workout (ie. one more barrier to actually working out).

I hope you have a great first week of 2018! I'd really like any feedback you have on what content I should provide in 2018, so please let me know what areas or topics you'd like to see more of, or which posts you enjoyed most in 2017.

Thanks!

Graham
