Weekly Mix #252 - 42 ways to improve your life

Momentum, Being Lucky, Tech Breakthroughs, Tesla Work Rules & Ways to Improve Your Life

Happy Monday!

The last couple weeks, I've felt more productive than I have in months.

At work, at the gym, in my eating habits, in finding time to read.

It's momentum.

It's something I've come to recognize because I've seen how powerful it can be.

Motivation and productivity often go hand-in-hand, but they can be hard to find.

Your environment plays a role, as do other distractions—trips, vacations, sickness, fatigue, workload.

But sometimes you get one win under your belt—like returning to the gym, for example, or nailing an assignment at work—and you start to build confidence.

Some portion is merely perception: you get a win and suddenly you start noticing the little wins elsewhere, like when you buy a car and suddenly notice the same model everywhere you go.

Either way, momentum is a powerful force. Learning to recognize it is like surfing; if you can figure out when you're about to catch a wave, you can make the most of the ride.

The holiday period can be a good time to start building some of that momentum—some time off, or a slowdown at work, or the start of the New Year—they can all serve as good triggers.

However momentum strikes, it's a powerful skill to be able to recognize it and make the most of it.

I hope you all find some momentum this week!

📖 How to be lucky - Christian Busch - This one fits well with the idea of momentum, as much of "being lucky" is simply mindset and learning to recognize opportunities in everyday life. This article outlines how to be more lucky, from cultivating your "serendipity mindset" to decluttering your life.

🧠 Neuralink - Two major announcements on the tech front this week. First, Neuralink (one of Elon Musk's many companies) announced they were aiming to start human trials within 6 months. Even if that's delayed, it's big news because of the potential implications of the technology—"restoring vision and enabling muscle movement in those who cannot do so."

🤖 ChatGPT - The second was the publishing of ChatGPT, where you can input natural language queries (ex: "write me a 500-word essay about the fall of the British empire) and get a detailed response. Searching Twitter will yield a number of impressive examples, but the implications of the technology are vast. You can try it yourself here.
