Weekly Mix #191 - CEO Learnings, Antifragility, Mother's Day, Making Vaccines & Jet Suits

Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a good start to the month, and appreciated your mothers over the weekend.

Lots of interesting stuff this week, so let's get right into it!

Quick note:

My friend Jamie is selling beautiful postcards in support of India. You can pick some up here.

What I Worked On

Short Essays: Our Health is Like a Gas Tank and Plateaus

Personal Podcast: I finished publishing all the episodes I plan to do (for now). You can listen here, or on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, etc.

Have a wonderful week!

📖 85 things I learned being a CEO - Sachin Gupta - While it's written as advice to CEOs, there are a lot of principles in here around decision-making, management, etc., that can be applied more broadly to your own performance and life.

📖 Antifragility - Alex Danco - I've been reading through some of Alex Danco's archives, and this piece on antifragility was one of the most relevant for me, particularly because I'm re-reading Antifragile at the moment. Things which are antifragile gain from disorder. If the past year has shown us anything, it's that we should all try and be a bit better about making our lives a little more antifragile.

📖 How Pfizer Makes Its Covid-19 Vaccine - NYT - Full of videos and photos, this article explains how Pfizer manufactures their vaccine. Cool to see in action.

📖 The Tail End - Wait but Why - I share this article frequently, but it was Mother's Day yesterday, which is another great occasion to read it. If you're in your 30s, you're probably down to ~5% of the time you'll ever spend with your parents.

📖 'I'd Never Been Involved in Anything as Secret as This' - Politico - This article recounts the plan to kill Osama bin Laden. I'm always aware the narrative fallacy is at work in pieces like these, but what I do find interesting is how messy and uncertain most decisions are, even with the resources of a government available to gather information.

🍿 Royal Marines Jet Suit Boarding - One of the coolest videos I've watched in a long time. Royal Marines demonstrate how a jet suit might be used in a variety of boarding scenarios.

A fun one to finish off: if you'd put all 3 US stimulus checks in Dogecoin, it would now be worth $500K:
