Weekly Mix #172 - Annual Reviews, Transparency, More Career Advice & Living Spaces

Hello!

I hope you're finding some time to relax over the holidays, wherever you are.

This week's newsletter will be a little shorter than usual, as I've been attempting to unplug a bit this week.

I spent most of my weekend surfing, which is about as good as it gets in terms of unplugging and relaxing.

In this week's newsletter:

Blog Post: The Complete Guide to Annual Reviews

Blog Post: Why You Should Work Transparently

Article(s): Marc Andreesen's Guide to Career Planning

Places: hinterhouse & hintercabin

Have a wonderful week!

Graham

Blog Post: The Complete Guide to Annual Reviews

It's the time of year for reflection and planning. This post outlines both the general process I follow each year, as well as examples from some of the best reviews I've found, and a template for you to follow if you like.

I haven't done my review yet, but I'll do it this week and publish the result.

Blog Post: Why You Should Work Transparently

It took me a little while to realize the true benefits of working transparently, but once I did, there will be no going back.

It's human nature to want to hide our work untill we think it's "ready"—a habit that is reinforced by our schooling—but it's rarely the best way to work.

Article(s): Marc Andreesen's Guide to Career Planning

After my post from last week with advice for those graduating college/university, and this article on career planning, some of you asked for more suggestions for thinking about careers and work.

This series of articles is written by Marc Andreesen, former co-founder of Netscape and now a venture capitalist, and I've revisited this series over and over.

Places: hinterhouse & hintercabin

I've spent a lot of time thinking about building somewhere to live recently. Not necessarily somewhere to spend all my time, but a retreat and home base of sorts.

It's led me to think a lot about what we really need in a living space, and these are the two examples I keep coming back to. They're both rentals available in Quebec, but the minimal design, connection with nature, and simplicity are what attracts me.

Thank you for being part of the newsletter every week.

It means so much that you let me be part of your inbox, and I love building a community of like-minded people with you.
