Options Are Distractions

Options Are Distractions

Barack Obama wore the same suit, shirt and tie combo while in office.

Mark Zuckerberg wears the same t-shirt, hoodie, and jeans every day.

The reason: they are removing options.

They have lots of important decisions to make each day, and don’t want to spend any time thinking about trivial things.

While we may not be running a country, or one of the largest tech companies in the world, we should follow their lead.

Making a single choice ahead of time, and removing options in areas that don’t matter removes cognitive load.

What we wear, when and how we work out, what we eat—these are all things we can decide once, and think little about again.

If we want to spend our time focused on important things, we have to eliminate the unimportant decisions and options from our lives.

A simple life is a focused life.
